Doran Consulting is pleased to announce that Gavin Wilson is being honoured with a prestigious Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust (QUEST) Travel Award from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Gavin, a Chartered Engineer and a member of our bridge and marine section, is now due to attend the 37th annual International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Symposium, which will be held in Madrid, in September 2014. The influential conference will provide a technical programme of papers, on themes such as innovative design concepts and forensic structural engineering, presented by leading bridge and structural engineers from around the world. It will also incorporate some of Madrid's most popular attractions, with the official opening reception to be held in the Prado Museum and the closing ceremony being hosted at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid.

Gavin said, “To be awarded the QUEST Travel Award is definitely one of the most significant achievements in my career to date. The IABSE Symposium is one of the leading conferences in the world on bridge and structural engineering. I'm really looking forward to attending this event, which will be a unique opportunity for me to learn more about the work and research of engineers from across the globe.”

Each year, ICE, a registered charity, awards some of their best student and graduate members a series of QUEST scholarships and awards. QUEST was set up in 1977 to support and encourage education in civil engineering, in particular in terms of gaining experience working and learning abroad. With over 80,000 ICE members worldwide, applications to QUEST are highly competitive. Previous recipients have undertaken projects in developing countries, studied and researched local practice and attended international conferences. We are delighted that Gavin will join the rank of QUEST winners in gaining this invaluable experience courtesy of the ICE.
