Congratulations to Bridge Team Member Lyndsay Carmichael on her appointment as the first apprentice to the Chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers for the 2013/14 session.

Lyndsay was chosen from a pool of applicants by Kevin McShane, Chairman of the ICE in Northern Ireland, to shadow him during his year in office.  Kevin McShane said "Lyndsay demonstrated a wide range of skills in her application and I am delighted that she is my Apprentice for the year. I hope to give her a good insight into ICE and the role it plays for Civil Engineers in Northern Ireland as well as helping her develop her professional skills."

Lyndsay graduated from Queen's University with a Masters degree in Structural Engineering with Architecture and joined Doran Consulting in 2013, proving herself to be an invaluable addition to the Bridge Infrastructure Team. Lyndsay said "Since joining Doran Consulting, I have been working with the Bridge Infrastructure Team on projects across Ireland. My primary ambition is to achieve Chartered Engineer status and to be the most proficient and professional engineer I can be and this year as Kevin's Apprentice, I hope to learn even more, to help further my career."

Lyndsay’s role as apprentice will see her attend the main proceedings throughout the ICE calendar, including the Annual General Meeting, ICE Committee meetings, the ICE President's Visit and the Annual Dinner, meeting key people within the industry and as a result, gaining a deeper understanding of the profession. This should benefit not only Lyndsay’s day-to-day work, but also help her to achieve chartered status when she reaches professional review stage.
