Doran Consulting was commissioned to design a new steel-framed school on a brown field site. The new accommodation provides a 3-storey teaching block, a 2-storey teaching block, multipurpose hall, sports hall, technology suite and dining areas. Due to the sloping nature of the site, extensive reinforced concrete retaining walls were required to achieve the level differences necessary.
The external facilities include a car park, 2 sand based pitches, a synthetic grass pitch, tennis courts, athletics area, playground and courtyard. Ground improvement techniques were required under pitch areas and rolling dynamic compaction and lime stabilization techniques were employed. The drainage design incorporates rainwater harvesting and grey water is used for toilet flushing.
