Laganside Courts, Belfast

This prestigious PFI project comprised the provision of 6 Crown Courts, 6 Magistrates Courts and 4 County Courts with associated prisoner cells, offices, private and public circulation areas and services. The building is a 5-storey reinforced concrete framed structure with a structural steel roof.

Substructures comprised bored piles and in situ reinforced concrete pile caps and ground beams. Stability is provided by reinforced concrete stair and lift cores. The building is located in the high profile corridor running from Belfast City Hall to the Waterfront Concert Hall on the edge of the River Lagan and is at the heart of the Laganside regeneration area. A high quality architectural finish was achieved, with the buildings having been clad in reconstructed stone panels to complement the adjacent High Courts Complex and the Waterfront Hall.

The building received the Liam McCormick Prize for Building of the Year as part of the 2002 RSUA Design Awards.
