Queen's Film Theatre, Belfast

This exciting project involved many facets of structural engineering to solve the problems the development presented.

These included:

  • A significant new build in a very restricted site
  • Linkages to a number of existing buildings
  • Major refurbishment of an existing cinema block
  • Protection of adjacent buildings from undermining during the works
The facility included 3 cinemas for the Queen's Film Theatre and an integral Drama Theatre and associated spaces for teaching. The main block was constructed using a structural steel frame supported on reinforced concrete foundations designed to take into account the existing foundations of adjacent buildings and restrictions on the boundary.
