Downpatrick Sewerage Scheme, Co. Down

Doran Consulting was commissioned by NI Water, to assess the requirements for suitable foul and surface water sewerage to serve two proposed housing developments in Downpatrick totalling some 260 houses and to procure such sewerage as was required.

An assessment of the existing sewerage system in the vicinity of the sites was carried out to determine the ability of the system to accept foul sewage and surface water flows from the proposed houses.

Sewer network analysis determined that the existing system was adequate for foul sewage flows but there was no reserve capacity for surface water flows. An appraisal report was prepared which included a recommended route and outline design for a suitable sewer. The practice undertook the detailed design and contract administration of the scheme. The practice also provided site supervision and planning supervision. The works involved the construction of approximately 1.5km of concrete surface water sewers up to 750mm diameter.
